RESPONSIBILITY
CALANTHÉ is born from a desire to do better. We wanted to deliver a way for customers to purchase clothes without the insecurity of not knowing where they came from.
The design concept offered by CALANTHÉ is key wardrobe pieces with a twist. A new category of basics, that easily can be combined together as well as with the things most people already have in their wardrobe. The pieces form CALANTHÉ is meant to hang in your closet for a long time, just like some of the pieces that you've had forever and no longer even remember where you got it from. Favorites that lasts over time and trends.
CALANTHÉ strives for making a good choice easily available for customers. Our prices reflect the time and work put in all aspects in the supply chain that is needed to put your item together. To keep our prices as low as possible, we have deliberately chosen not to work with any resellers, instead CALANTHÉ will always use its own selling channels.
CALANTHÉ wants to inspire you to consume less, and more thoughtfully. To purchase items made to fit your own body, in a design that can be used over a long period of time.
OUR PRODUCTION AND MATERIALS
We wanted to make the production as easy as possible. With a planet that requires us to make some changes and better choices, we did not see the point of producing more fabric when the second hand market for overproduced meters of fantastic fabric is as extensive as it is. Therefore we have partnered with a couple of different vendors that specialize in purchasing and reselling fabric that is leftover from other brands' productions - also called "deadstock fabric". Leading us to not waste any more water or chemicals than what it took to produce what's already on the market.
We also believe that the societal aspect of sustainabilty is just as important as the environmental one. Therefore we thought hard and long on where we would place our actual production, to ensure that all workers are fairly treated in the process. And really be 100% sure. After a while we turned our eyes to our home market - Sweden. As many outsourced productions across many different industries are being moved home and the desire for a local production is increasing, why not place the production in Sweden? Sweden was once a strong actor on the textile production scene and after looking for local production partners we were overwhelmed by the amount of compentence and knowledge available. And there it was settled, the production was set for Sweden.
Today we work with a production company in the south of Sweden, where we have a talented group of workers making each and every product for CALANTHÉ. With regular visits along with a price structure based on that all the workers are fairly waged, we can finally be 100% sure that all people in our production - from pattern makers to fabric cutters to seamstresses - are being fairly treated in our process. But no one is perfect - the second hand market for fabric is extensive but young. And to this date it is difficult to get all necessary information needed to guarantee that all parts in the supply chain from fiber to finished fabric has been 100% sustainable for both planet and people. Until we get there, we are pressuring our vendors for more transparency and we do our best in choosing fabric from vendors that are reselling leftovers from brands that we find reliable.
Besides from the fabric used in our production, we source all other material from local vendors in Sweden or EU. The majority have a production in Sweden or in EU - such as our necklabels that are produced in the Netherlands and our washcare labels that are produced in Denmark - but we cannot guarantee that our sewing threads and zippers are made in EU. Here we focus on choosing quality brands from trusted companies, that will ensure that each product have high quality details.
We have purposely chosen not to use any hang tags with our products. As the products are made first when an order is made, we do not have the need to organise a large amount of back stock products - which is the initial purpose of hang tags. This decision has been made in an attempt to use as little one-time-use details as possible.
The products are being packed in recyclable boxes. Our goal is to in the future only use boxes of already recycled materials, but as a young brand we cannot hit all our goals directly from start. The products are packed with digitally printed silk paper from Sweden, and closed with custommade stickers from Sweden. In the package is also an order note and the individual order sheet printed on recycable paper. Please recycle both, or keep the order note for the art on the back of the card.
GARMENT CARE
At CALANTHÉ we always work on finding the balance between using a fabric as environmental friendly as possible and a fabric as wearfriendly as possible. Those two do not always go hand in hand.
For example, recycling the fabric when an item's lifespan is coming to an end is far easier if the fabric is made all on the same fibers. However, a lot of the stretch and comfortability we get from our favorite pieces, unfortunately comes from that the fabric itself has components making it less environmentally friendly. Very generally speaking.
It's a balance, as already said, but at CALANTHÉ we belive that our clothes should become a natural part of our lifes, without us having to go the extra mile to have it there. With other words, we have tried to make products that are as easy to maintain as possible. Therefore all of our products can be machine washed, and we recommend to avoid the tumble dryer and instead hang your pieces to air dry. All products can be steamed or ironed. Please review the washcare label on each individual product to see specific degrees and heat in which to wash and iron your items.
When you have used and loved your item for a long time and you find yourself experiencing the fabric pilling, we recommend you getting a fabric shaver - these are brilliant in restoring the surface to its original condition. Additionally, if your item would tear over time or need any type of repair, please consult your local tailor or seamstress for help, or contact us at support@calanthestudio.com and we are happy to help you prolong your item's lifespan.
